About
Tsez is a Northeast Caucasian language spoken by the Tsez people in Russia and parts of Georgia. It is believed to have 64 different noun cases, but many linguists have argued that there are fewer. However, it is still known as one of the hardest languages to learn. Two other Northeastern Caucasian languages, Hinukh and Khwarshi, used to be regarded as dialects of Tsez, but they have changed so much over time that they are now considered to be their own distinct languages. Now, Tsez is only spoken by around 12,500 people, who reside in small villages in Russia and Georgia. Tsez is known to be taught in some elementary schools and preschools in the Dagestan region of Russia, but most schools are taught in Russian or Avar. Children tend to communicate more in these languages than in Tsez, leading to the decline of the language.
