About
Ishkashimi is an Iranian Indo-European language spoken by the Ishkahsimi people. It is primarily spoken in Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Most speakers are widely dispersed throughout these countries, so it is not commonly used in daily communication. Nearly all Ishakshimi speakers are bilingual in Tajik (in Tajikistan) or Dari (in Afghanistan), and most use those as their main languages instead of Ishkashimi. Although Ishkashimi is spoken with family and amongst older generations, younger children tend to use Tajik or Dari in communication, leading to the decline of the language.
