About

Biri is a Pama-Nyungan Australian Aboriginal language spoken by the Birri Gubba people in the Mackay region of Queensland. While the Biri language used to be widely spoken amongst the Birri Gubba tribe, it is now thought to be extinct, with no fluent native speakers. However, there are inland tribes that are known to speak dialects of the language, although they are so different that many consider them to be entirely different languages. There have been some revitalization efforts, including online classes and books written in the language, but no native speakers of this language are known to exist at this moment.
