About

Akum is a Niger-Congo language that is spoken in Cameroon and Nigeria. The language is known to be spoken in five villages: three in Cameroon (Upkack, Izong, Konkum) and two in Nigeria (Ibang, Manga). The Akum language is the main language used amongst families in these villages, and some lower grades in school use the language, although most classes are taught in English. Although Akum is spoken in many homes, general communication is conducted in the official languages of English and French, as well as in Pidgin English and Jukun, which are other common languages in the area.
